Europe Day 2025

I had the pleasure of participating in this year’s Europe Day celebration at the House of the European Union in Vienna – an inspiring event marked by dialogue, openness, and meaningful exchange, highlighting our shared European values.

May 9th represents a historic milestone in the journey toward European integration. It commemorates the Schuman Declaration of 1950, presented by then French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman. This initiative laid the foundation for a new model of peaceful cooperation among European nations, built on stability, solidarity, and democratic
coexistence.

It is no coincidence that the name “Europe” traces back to antiquity. It derives from the mythological figure Europa, who, according to Greek mythology, came from the East and gave her name to an entire continent. This symbolism – the merging of diverse cultures and traditions – continues to reflect the essence of European identity: a community grounded in diversity, dialogue, and cultural heritage.

In an era of complex global developments – geopolitical tensions, energy and technological transitions, and social and environmental challenges – the conversation about Europe’s future and its role on the international stage is more relevant than ever.

During the event, we had the opportunity to exchange ideas and reflect on the current political and social landscape in a multicultural and international setting. It was a valuable experience that highlighted the importance of civic engagement, diplomacy, and cooperation.
